Here are ten comedy moments found in films, during the nineties. Hope some make your personal list. 1. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls - Throw Me a Spear! The number one spot belongs to Jim Carrey and the sequel film, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. This was an extremely difficult decision, because there were so many wonderful comedy nuggets throughout the two Ace Ventura films. The mechanical rhino giving birth to Mr. Ventura, the scene in reverse at the mental institution, and the Bumblebee Tuna scene. However, throw me a spear won by a thread. The moment occurs during the film when Ace Ventura must battle one of the tribesmen to earn their respect. The tribesmen, played by Tommy Davidson, decides to quit messing around with Ace and finish the fight. He then throws a spear into Ventura's leg and causes him to scream in pain. The setup with Ventura telling the tribesmen that he has the reflexes of a cat, and doesn't even move as the spear lodges deep into his leg, makes the scene even more funnier. Ace then shouts at Ouda, his comrade, to throw him a spear, only for that one to find its way into his other leg. "Its in the bone -- its in the bone -- its in the bone." 2. Nutty Professor - Dinner Scene In 1996, a science fiction-romantic comedy came out, called The Nutty Professor. The film stared Eddie Murphy, as the loveable university professor, Sherman Klump. In one of the scenes, Eddie Murphy puts his acting to the test, as he plays all (except for one) of his family members in the same scene. It is a dinner scene, where Sherman, and his four other family members sit down at a table to enjoy a family home meal. The little bickering matches between the characters at the table is what makes this funny and enjoyable to watch. 3. My Cousin Vinny - Screeching Owl My Cousin Vinny is a 1992 film, that was one of the best comedy movies to come out of the nineties. Another show that was full of great and witty humorous material from beginning to end. It had everything from mud in the tires to grits. From the innocent little deer to collecting an owed debt. Joe Pesci plays the main character, Vincent LaGuardia Gambini, who is sent as a lawyer to his kin, and tries and help in the murder trail against him. In one of the scenes, however, Vincent is fast asleep in a log cabin, when all of a sudden, he hears an owl outside, making a loud noise. He grabs a gun and runs out, firing a few random shots in the night air. A classic moment in cinema. 4. Austin Powers - I'm Very Badly Burned! In the classic 1997 film, Austin Powers, a very amusing scene transpires between the main villain, Dr. Evil, and one of his henchmen, Mustafa. A mishap on Mustafa's part causes Dr. Evil to dispose of him in the incinerator below the meeting room. Unfortunately, for Mustafa, who was played by Will Ferrell, the trap didn't kill him. He spends the next minute trying to get aid for his injuries. Dr. Evil eventually sends a goon to finish off Mustafa in the incinerator. The funniest moment was when Mustafa shockingly shouts, "You shot me -- you shot me right in the arm -- why did you -- " This moment is also memorable, cause it's the first scene in where we see Dr. Evil as the funny yet sophisticated head villain. 5. Life - Cornbread The 1999 comedy drama Life, was another magical piece, filled with rich context. A lot of in-depth characters and situations. In one scene, the great duo of Ray Gibson (played by Eddie Murphy) and Claude Banks (played by Martin Lawrence) are confronted by an enormous inmate at dinner time. While sitting at one of the tables in the cafeteria, the big man tries to ask for Banks' cornbread. Wanting to give the piece of cornbread up to the intimidating inmate, an annoyed Gibson tells the man that you can't have that cornbread and don't give it to him. Gibson says, once the scary inmate turns his attention onto his cornbread, "You better get the taste outta your mouth." A funny moment from a funny film. 6. MouseHunt - Trapped Lars and Emie Smuntz find themselves stuck with an unwanted mouse, in an estate that they are trying to sell for a profit. This 1997 slapstick comedy feature is a great movie for the whole family. A humorous moment in the film is when Lars and Emie are trying desperately to eradicate the mouse by filling an entire room up with mousetraps. Unknowing to them, the two pin themselves up against a corner of the room. The mouse eventually makes his way up a counter and triggers the mousetraps, snapping a few on the two humans. 7. Ernest Goes to Jail - Leaky Pen A funny scene, in where Ernest P. Worrell (played by Jim Varney) is a member of the jury. He finds himself with a pen that snaps in two and the ink from inside begins to leak all over his face and hands. Trying to keep his composer, as Ernest tries to clean up the situation. It is a funny scene that requires no words. 8. Dumb and Dumber - Seabass Lloyd Christmas (played by Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (played by Jeff Daniels) is on a road trip to bring back a suitcase to a women. In one of the scenes in this 1994 comedy film, Harry accidentally spills salt while the two are at a little caf©. Lloyd tells Harry to toss some salt over his shoulder. Harry does one better, and throws the entire salt shaker over his shoulder, hitting a man in the process. The now angry man, Seabass, comes over to Harry's burger and spits in it. This to me, isn't the funniest part of the scene. It's what Lloyd does next. First, after thinking really hard that he may have an idea for revenge on Seabass, the two trick the cashier in thinking that Seabass wanted to pick up their tab. The two drive down the road laughing at what they just pulled off. Until Lloyd ruins the moment by telling Harry he saw the tactic in a movie, where the two got killed in it. 9. Black Sheep - Bat When Chris Farley and David Spade's characters come to a secluded cabin in the middle of the night, they discover a creature on the wall. What happens next is priceless duo comic gold. The two try all different kinds of ways to get rid of the creature and eventually create a net-like contraption, that is used to push the bat outside and out of the cabin. 10. Office Space - That Would Be Great Bill Lumbergh is a character in the movie, Office Space, that gives his fellow employees a hard time. His slow paced demeanor and constant meddling makes him amusing enough to be appreciated. "If you can go ahead and do that -- that would be great." This moment ranks in at number ten on the list. |
